Track Officials Announce Next Motocross events and Change to Drag Racing Event Schedule

Topeka, KS – Aug 4, 2016: After the highly-anticipated and very successful Grand Opening Practice Ride at the facility’s new motocross track back on July 10, officials at the New Heartland Park Topeka announce three additional dates for 2016 along with an update to the previously published drag racing schedule.

Motocross events
Sunday, August 28 will be a Practice/Test Day for motocross motorcycle riders of all skill levels. The gate opens at 8 AM with the track being open from 9 AM until 3 PM. Admission to the facility will be $5 per person with riders purchasing their Practice Tech Card for $20. Practice groups will ride 10- to 15-minute sessions and will be placed in ride groups based upon their level of experience.

Saturday & Sunday, Oct 1-2 will be the facility’s first practice/race weekend. The gate opens at 8 AM each day, $5 admission per person, riders will purchase their Practice Sticker for $20. Practice groups will run from 9 AM until 3 PM on Saturday.

For Sunday’s race program, the gate once again opens at 8 AM, with a $5 per person admission and a Sunday Race Class entry of $35 for the first class and $30 for each additional race class. Sunday’s race program starts at 9 AM.

Concessions and restroom facilities will be available for riders, crew and spectators, however, with the track infrastructure still under construction, crew and spectators are asked to bring their own camp chairs and umbrellas to make their spectating more comfortable. Riders and spectators are asked to enter at Gate C off of Gary Ormsby Drive and will then be directed to the pit and parking areas just to the south of the motocross track.

Drag Race Event Cancellation
The final race in the 2016 Havoc in the Heartland Heads-Up Series originally scheduled for Saturday, August 13 has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. “We want to thank all those racers who supported the heads-up racing in 2016,” says Scott Gardner, President of Heartland Park Topeka. “Given the scheduling challenges we faced this year, we’re going to re-group this series and look forward to introducing a new heads-up program for the 2017 season.”

The New Heartland Park Topeka is a multi-purpose motorsports and outdoor events facility located in Topeka, Kansas. The facility opened in 1989 and features a championship NHRA sanctioned ¼ mile drag strip, a 2.5-mile road course with four different configurations, a 3/8-mile clay oval and motocross track. Owners of the facility are Chris Payne and Todd Crossley of Shelby Development, LLC who purchased the facility in January of 2016. Weekly race programs began in April and included the record-setting NHRA Kansas Nationals back in May and the Manufacturers Series/Battle of the Brands scheduled for October 21-23.
